About
This was a school project where I was instructed to make a zine about any topic with any photos and/or illustrations of my choosing. I chose to make it about a topic that has interested me for a long time, urban ecology, and made the illustrations in Illustrator.
Process
Urban Animals is a zine made to celebrate the creatures that live and thrive with us in cities and suburbs. I searched to find articles that talked about the impact these animals and humans have on each other in urban settings. After that I edited some of them down so they would fit into two pages.
The illustrations were made to look like the animals were interacting with the text. The rats nibble on their name, the racoon reaches down to grab at the text, the fox sleeps on top of the paragraphs on its page. These animals can get into places people don’t always want them to be and I wanted to show that in my illustrations as well.

Final Layout and Cover
Initial cover design for the zine.
I was originally going in a different direction with the cover. This style ended up being too different from the style of the inside of the zine, so revisions were made.
